AUGUST UPDATE 18 August 2011 18/08/2011
Once again the weather has closed in on Bowral today. Hopefully the weekend will be okay and we can get some golf in. It is extremely disappointing that the field sizes are down during the winter months and we hope they will increase with the onset of Spring. Please remember the Club needs your support to survive - the more you play the better your golf becomes and the stronger your Club becomes. You will have received a letter from Treasurer Leigh Batchelor with your Membership Subscription Renewal Notice for 2011/12. Leigh has indicated at this stage we project a loss of $20000 for the 2011 calendar year, which is a significant improvement over what was forecast. We are aiming for at least a break even result in the 2012 calendar year and this can be achieved with your help and understanding. Thankyou to the ladies for organising a successful charity day, with over $6000 going to the local support group for Parkinsons Disease, and over $2000 going into the Club's coffers. The support of our members and visitors is much appreciated. Your house committee is organising some Sunday music/jazz events over the coming months and you will be notified of these in due course. Your support for these events will be greatly appreciated. Neville Ridge is organising the Bowral Teams Shield event in October. This is a mixed teams event (two women two men) and the entry sheet is on the notice board at the bar. Please get a team together now!!!!!!!! Unfortunatley Sam Hunt has resigned from the Board, and a replacement will be named in due course. Jeannette Wray is also leaving us to take up a position with more regular hours to suit her lifestyle, with an accountancy firm in Bowral. I wish her well and will miss her happy smiling face (with the occasional song) from the bar. Larry Canning has agreed to do some part time work in the pro shop to allow Craig to take his required two days off each week - good to see you back Larry. Until next time - good golfing. Ralph Polglase Craig Langby 18/05/2011
As you are aware Tony has left, and the happy face of Craig Langby will now be seen in the Pro Shop. Craig is now an accredited golf teacher and will be more than happy to assist you in improving your game. Please contact him at the Pro Shop. Click here to see. New Board 18/05/2011
It has now been three weeks since the AGM and the team are hard at work. One of our first tasks was to set up the sub-committees, and a list of these follows. A year of planning and a spectacular effort by Larry Canning, Steve Anderson, Chris Green, Captain David Stanley and Tony White paid off with the twice postponed Heritage Park Legend's Classic Invitational being played on Monday 10 January. The weather was not so good, but the warmth of the professionals, the condition of the course and a well presented clubhouse made this event an outstanding success. For me, the staging of the Classic is one of the highlights for our Club. The effort that goes into organising this event largely goes unnoticed, but is truly the reason for its success. I would like to thank the Legends PGA for getting behind this event. Many of the Professionals I spoke with were impressed with the condition of the course and the overall ambience of our Club. Many will put this in their calendar for next year. The Dan Souter Cup, donated by Chris Green's C2C Global was something else. Made by the same company that made the FA Cup, the winning professional commented that they don't often play for such an impressive prize. To all the sponsors - Thank you. We look forward to seeing you join us again in November 2011. David Stanley's camera was working overtime, so I am sure we will see some great photos on this website soon. To Tony White and his staff - thank you for the effort you put in to making the game run smoothly and for looking after close to 200 guests on the day. Heritage Park Legends Classic Update 12/12/2010
Round 1 & 2 to the weather. Round 3 to the Legends Classic. The adverse weather experienced by the whole of NSW forced the postponement, then cancellation of the Heritage Park Southern Highlands Legends Classic earlier this month. The weather also caused the cancellation of 4 other Legend's playing events in Sydney in November/December. Needless to say we were all very disappointed as this was to have been one of the highlights for the Bowral Golf Club. The good news is that Tony White received a call from the PGA advising that these Legends tour events have been rescheduled for January 2011, and would like to also include our own Legends Classic event. The NSW Legends PGA Championship at Oatlands, now the 13th & 14th January, Bayview, Rosnay and Marrickville have all combined to form another 'Sydney stretch'. The date is yet to be confirmed but is likely to be the 17th or 18th January - we are trying for the 17th. As soon as Tony has the date, we will be notifying all players who previously booked to play. Round 3 to the Club.... | BGC Board Chairman Dr Ian McKenzie
